For this particular project, I was given the assignment to design a piece of kinetic type accompanying a soundtrack. In Past Life by Tame Impala I wanted to emphasize the monotonous and spacious feel in the beginning of the track. With a black and white aesthetic, a combination of analog and digital work, and a classic animation technique, a feeling of floating around in empty space was created.

The type was drawn by hand, tracing printed type, scanned, animated frame by frame in After Effects, and looped when necessary.
